Chitra sante at Hubli - 03 Mar'2013 ‘Chitra Santhe’, exhibition-cum-sale of paintings, in Hubli on Sunday managed to attract some people and a few paintings found buyers too. The Chitra Santhe was organised outside the Sawai Gandharva Hall by the roadside as part of the three-day birth centenary celebrations of Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal. It was organised jointly by the Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music Foundation and the Hubli Art Circle. Unlike the previous years when artists from different places took part in good number, this year’s Chitra Santhe failed to attract many. Several artists from north Karnataka districts didn’t turn up for the event because of the last-minute intimation about the event. Although the organisers had claimed that over 100 artists would participate in the event, the number did not cross 30. Even those who participated were not happy with the kind of arrangements and the way the artists were treated at the event.
While there were regular artists like Shaik Mohiddin, K.V. Shankar, Nawaz Totagar, G.R. Mallapur and Chandru Yadrami, Ramesh Chandeppanavar of Hubli, who are regular participants at such events, there were a few like Prashanth Adur and M.S. Nadaf, a fine arts student from Gadag, who participated in it for the first time. Paintings on various media like acrylic, water colour, oil colour, crayons, charcoal sketches and even glass works were on display at the santhe.
